Cryptocoryne purpurea
June 3rd, 2009
A second plant of what I have as Cryptocoryne purpurea flowered. A very large and strong spathe. I was able to take some decent close ups. You can see that its not your typical purpurea coloration. Very strong features on the spathe. The collar is very pronounced.

Hey Ghaz! You had given me a small plantlet of C. purpurea when NJAGC came down to visit you. I all but killed this little plant. I know its blackwater but I am curious how you potted it and if there is any fertilization.
Spathe is stunning!
Thank you! Yes, it is quite a nice crypt! Sorry to hear your plant isn’t doing well. I’ve got mine potted up in 50% leaf compost and 50% ADA Amazonia. Since the tap water here is very very soft (KH < 1, GH < 3), I've just been using tap water in the setup now. I change the water out every month or so, and replace it with fresh water from the tap along with a little MirAcid (following the directions on the label).
